It’s almost past midnight as I am writing this, but I just have to finish it after putting it off for almost 8 weeks. This post isn’t about any specific couple or any specific wedding. I am dedicating this post to every single client, hard-working assistant, friend, family member en my dear husband that has shown me so much support in this last year! If you’re in the wedding industry, you know that a season starts around mid-year and ends after 10 or 12 crazy months. We don’t always get to take off around Christmas time which means that in winter you will find quite a few of us hibernating and cherishing the few weeks of quiet in between.
This past year has been no different. Crazy and spectacular are two words that come to mind. I have witnessed so much love and happiness this past year that I can write a book on it! Thinking back now, all those times I was pulling at my hair at 3 in the morning because my computer was working against me, it was all worth it. Living the dream. And now, finally, after hibernating for a few weeks and starting to feel human again I can write this post. The moments I have shared with the most wonderful people deserve another share in the world so here it is.
Credit where credit is due, and that brings me to all who have assisted me in the last 12 months. Nicci, Alex, Rebecca, Kaydee and Ilse-Belle have been my partners in crime and right hands at weddings. They have made sure I stayed hydrated and kept me fed on the most delicious hors d’oeuvres they could find during the pre-drinks! Thank you ladies for sticking with me and for your hard work. Of course, no nostalgic post about any year is complete without mentioning my husband. This guy deserves a medal and a million dollars! He has been my rock and my shoulder through the hardest of times. He made me tea at 2 in the morning when I was still far from being done with my editing. He has been my backup assistant and even my bodyguard! He is also super talented when it comes to social media marketing which has earned him the official title of my Marketing Manager. None of this would have ever been possible without him by my side and I am so thankful to be spending my life with a patient and supportive husband.
A few things I will never forget from this past year: Photographing my dear friends Kerry and O’Neil’s wedding, the tears that were shed during Lezaan and Regardt’s heartfelt vows, 5 dogs as a part of the wedding party at Stiaan and Yanic’s wedding, the abundance of happiness and excitement amongst Dean and Chane’s friends, Gloudene’s incredibly beautiful wedding dress and Jaco’s sincere and loving speech to his wife, Yolandie. These memories may not mean much to you, but they have played an intricate role in getting me through this past year. Working on your own can be tough, but sharing in these moments have made it the best job in the world – and these are only the handful that I can think of right now. I am going to miss these last 12 month, but I am so excited for the new season of crazy adventures to begin!
