EBC Student Ministries | Day 5 (Christian camp)

We started out the morning doing are Devon’s again. However, this time it was overlooking an amazing view of Lake Atitlan. On just the other side of the lake where we are at, their is a picture perfect volcanoe! Absolutely amazing.

We had some breakfast and then packed in the vans to drive about 45 min to a Christian camp. The roads here are very bumpy and very crowded. A very fun cultural experience. Also, I got to speak with a man who was driving our van. He became a Christian a while ago and had been going to church in the local city here (panachel). It was fun to try and practice my Spanish with him.

We arrived at the camp and immidiatly got to work. We had a small orientation and then climbed a mountain to plant some trees. Several years ago a fire destroyed one of the hillsides and they were really wanting to have some people help plant some trees. We spent about three hours on a steep hillside planting trees for the camp.

After we were done, we came back and had some lunch with the workers of the camp. Again, another blessing to here more stories. One of the men who are group heard from was Miguel. He was on the camp board.

Miguel shared his tetemony. He Came from a non church background. Through Gods grace he is now a Christian. In fact, Miguel was the first Christian in the area. When he became a Christian, his family treated him bad but his family came to know The Lord also after a while. His dad is the one who eventually donated the land for the Christian camp. WOW!

We got back to camp around 3 and had a little time for shopping afterword. I, along with several others, went to a coffee house, called “crossroads cafe.” This coffee house is run by Christians and serves as a light in the community. Most people in the area know Mike and Adele ( the owners). In fact, the owners daughter is currently doing a mission called Global challenge. Something very similar to World Race ( which Katie Lanting did). It was so good talking to them and seeing how The Lord is working through them in this town in Guatemala.

For dinner we went a few blocks away to a hotel resteraunt. Very good food!

At the end of the night, we heard some more testimonies. Jessica Ketcham shared, which was encouraging for all of us. Also, Paul and Gene Sewilka shared. They have been with us since the beginning. Paul was the former president of the seminary and Gene was the former head cook. They have both transitioned to different positions and have continued to faithfully serve The Lord. They have both been such a blessing and an example of faithfulness in ministry. They have been at the seminary for about 43 years. Praise God for people like them.

Tomorrow we are traveling back to the seminary which will take a while. But before that, we are going to have a little fun and go on some zip lines in the jungle with some monkeys. Should be fun!!

Well, good night…and thanks for sharing this journey with us. Continues to lift us all in your prayers.

Parents, your kids have done amazing and I’m so thankful for each one.

Oh, and sorry for spelling mistakes…it gets late and I have to write these posts on my iPhone.
