Before Adele there was Lulu - Telegraph

Across the Atlantic, Lulu is still viewed in the glow of the Sixties British invasion: one of a triumvirate of female singers, along with Petula Clark and Dusty Springfield, that introduced a generation of Americans to British pop. She is celebrated for such soulful hits as her 1967 number one To Sir With Love, later covered by Al Green, and 1969’s Oh Me Oh My (I’m a Fool For You Baby), which was subsequently covered by Aretha Franklin. In the United States, she says, “It’s not just about Relight my Fire and Shout” – her mention of the two tracks which form her calling card in Britain is laced with disdain – “There, I get to play the music I really love.”
