cydniey's thoughts - the period wars are over

inquisitive

welcome to sunday. i'm listening to a little Adele to get my morning started. i got four hours of sleep. i feel pretty good. i didn't have any dreams that i remember and no nightmares. i slept part of the night on the couch and part in my bed. i remember getting up at 6 to go to the bathroom and doc asked if i was going to bed, i said no. then i came back out, lay down on the couch . . . and got back up and went to bed to the sound of his laughter. heh.

these black cats are going to be the death of me. when vader got neutered, they shaved his balls and all around the area. the fur on his balls has grown back, but the surrounding fur hasn't and it looks funny. so i was checking out howler to see if his fur had grown back well, and was surprised to discover howler is a girl. i got Red to check howler out and back up my assertion. i was right, this time. doc said she was a girl from the beginning, and i thought i saw balls when we were tickling her one day. oh well. she doesn't seem concerned with the gender confusion.

now we switch the music to Big Country to energize the day.

we've been hand feeding simon. he's responding well to it. we tried to give him a pepcid last night and he tried to kill us. New Skin was had all around. so today, Red has volunteered bravely to pill him for me. simon seems to be over it, as he is sitting next to me right now. god, he gets fierce quick. i forget how dangerous he can be.

my next double down slam is on june 12th. i don't know if i'm going to write new material for it. i'm thinking about it. but then, i may want to do one of the pieces i've just rediscovered.

i'm going to try to go to other slams in the meantime. there are some downtown in the arts district. i like this slam crowd because they don't have issues with cigarette smoke so they don't look for venues where there is no smoking and they end up in bars. love it. it's nice to be able to smoke without missing the poets. and drink, if that is your thing. round 2 of the slam was interesting because most of the poets were smashed.

the thing i need to work on is projection. i learned that i can't rely on the mic. this causes a conflict, my work is meant to be read quietly and with feeling, it's meant to be subtle and let the words do the work. so slam competing isn't really for my work. it's loud and bawdy and most of the poets don't need a mic. my stuff is more for studio recording and mixing with music. but there are a number of pieces that are shorter that i've always passed over, that i could actually get up on the stage and yell. i'll take another look at those pieces.
