Lady Gaga and Adele Discuss Weighty Matters

Recently, Lady Gaga has openly admitted to problems with anorexia and bulimia and has vowed to get a new healthy body and body image. She also just posted photos of herself in her underwear in response to doctored photos online that made it look as though she had put on a lot of weight.

The Huffington Post reported that when UK website Stylist asked Gaga about her new “body revolution,” Gaga said she didn’t really care about the unflattering photos but when she saw it in the news, she is quoted as saying: “I just thought. . . I mean, what kind of example is that to a young girl sitting at home? I thought, ‘well I don’t really care if they think I’m fat, because, quite honestly, I did gain about 30 pounds.’”

Here is Lady Gaga in September 2012, not looking fat.

The Huffington Post writer appears shocked that Gaga then went on to say, “Adele is bigger than me, how come nobody says anything about it? She’s so wonderful and I think her confidence is something I have to match. She has set the bar very high for a lot of woman. I need to be a confident woman and just say politically active things when I can that are helpful to young people.”

Do you think Gaga meant this to be insulting? Was she supposed to pretend Adele is not bigger than her? She was simply saying that when someone has talent and confidence, size should not matter. But the article points out that Adele has taken criticism and even insult about her weight. Karl Lagerfeld, the designer, called her fat. Designers do not design for real people, and consider anyone over a size 4 to be fat. Adele is well aware of that.

“I’ve never wanted to look like models on the cover of magazines,” the article quotes her. “I represent the majority of women and I’m very proud of that.”

Christina Aguilera is not mentioned in the article, but she has also recently stood up to her record company over the question of weight. Kudos to these women for standing up to the Barbie doll mentality of the entertainment industry.
