Britain stared out into the distance as the rain hit the ground in a rhythmic manner. Rain always did depress him, in a sense, because it always brought back unwanted memories that he wanted to erase, and he hoped that the rain would be able to wash them away and clean his mind of such pain.

He had raised the kid after all, and had gotten so attached to America that he did not expect for him to rebel suddenly. Well, so soon, he should say. He didn’t understand why America had acted so foolishly, so impulsively, and with so much immaturity over a few taxes his king was pulling over the colonists. He was only thinking how this would help his little colony in the future, but his little colony could not withstand a little economic pinch.

All I want is my freedom, he had said. His expression had looked wild and enraged in the rain, and all Britain could do was knock out his musket, but to no avail. America found a way to win his independence and Britain had no choice but to depart from the colony.

It had been so long ago that that little scar surprised him. But it never did quite heal and he could never forget that America was his ‘little brother’. He had heard that America had been doing well after the War of 1812 and the 19th century was looking promising for the growing country. He had grown up too fast for his own good. Britain hoped his little colony knew what he was doing.

Title: His Tears Mingled with the Rain

Characters: America, Engaland/Britain, mentions of France

Challenge: Prompt: Freedom

Bonus Words: hope, future, depart

Word Count: 299

Rating: T

Summary: America’s memory about his independence isn’t so great.

A/N / Warnings: Spoilers from America’s cleaning of the storage. A companion to Just a Voice in the Rain.

America gazed at Lady Liberty with dancing eyes. How long had it been since he felt so free? Two centuries? Two and a half? And to top it off, France gave him the statue as a gift. America knew France did that to piss off Britain over the loss of his colony. But France and Britain had always tried to punch each other in the balls, so it really didn’t make a difference, and America had learnt that when France visited, and when he offered the rebellious growing nation help to fight against his ‘older brother’.

America never lost hope, and even though the revolution risked so many lives, especially those that had the courage to sign the DoI, his future brightened when the Treaty of Paris of 1783 was signed and sealed. Now, he had tastier food (which was a thousand times better than Britain’s idea of food!), and do whatever the hell he wanted as long as justice and equality were present in his country.

However, he couldn’t help but remember Britain’s face when he told him to consider him independent while they fought in the rain. Britain looked so hurt, but America hadn’t cared and wanted to show the bastard who was boss and who would get to keep the colonies. America would not cede just because Britain became angry. However, instead of shooting him, he just cried, and it made America wonder what had happened to his magnificent older brother, the one that had taught him so much and raised him to believe in etiquette and all that fancy crap.

I remember when you were great, he had said as his older brother shed the tears that admitted his defeat and his definite departure.

America shrugged it off. “Burgers beat fish and chips any day.”
